2026 Yard Waste & Brush Site Opening Date & Hours
Purchase of a seasonal permit sticker is required to utilize the yard waste and brush site and is for City of La Crosse residents/property owners only. The green scannable stickers will now be renewable through the 2028 season.
The City of La Crosse Yard Waste & Brush site will open for the season on Monday, March 23rd, at 10:00 am, weather permitting. You may purchase a permit online below through our application portal and a sticker will be mailed to you. Permit stickers are also available for purchase at the Treasurer's window, located in the City Hall Lobby. Lobby hours are Monday-Thursday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM, Friday, 8:00 AM - 12 PM, and closed Friday afternoons, weekends, and holidays. Contractors will be permitted to utilize the site for a fee but must show proof of where the material is coming from. Please see website for additional information.

Saturday and Sunday: 10:00 am to 4:00 pm
Monday and Tuesday: 10:00 am to 6:00 pm
Wednesday, Thursday, Friday: CLOSED
Yard waste is defined as leaves, grass clippings, weeds, and garden plants. Food waste/Organics are defined as fruit and vegetable matter (including cores and rinds), flour and grain items such as bread, rice, and pasta, coffee grounds and filters, and eggshells. It also includes uneaten food/leftovers. Brush is defined as branches that are no more than 8 inches in diameter. Please contact our office by phone at 608-789-7508 if you have questions or concerns.
We do NOT accept logs, tree trunks, stumps, woodchips, sod, dirt, sand, or rock; these should be taken to the La Crosse County Landfill at 3200 Berlin Drive.
Harter's Quick Clean-Up provides an Organics cart specifically for food waste and it allows for a small amount of yard debris. This subscription service is $39/month and runs year-round. Harter’s also provides seasonal subscription service for yard waste, beginning in April, along the alley or curbside. Contact them at 608-782-2082 for more information. Current pricing for 2026: The 95-gallon cart will be delivered for a flat fee of $25. Weekly collection is $29/month; bi-weekly collection is $18.50/month; monthly collection is $17.50/month.
